Defects Route Reference
Understand the office-side defect backlog, defect detail workflow, and the way defect records hand off into work, reporting, and commercial follow-up.
Before you start
- You need to review open defects or trace which site or asset produced them.
Expected outcome
You can use the defect backlog as a triage desk instead of treating defects as hidden inspection side effects.
What this route is for
Defects owns the office-side backlog for defect records raised from inspections and later reviewed for remediation, reporting, or commercial follow-up.
Visibility and capability notes
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Route id | defects |
| Visibility | Customer-facing core route. |
| Capability notes | The backlog itself is broadly visible, while the follow-up desks it informs may still be capability-gated. |
| Direct inbound | Shell nav, inspection review, map defect shortcut, global search, and activity links. |
Main regions, dialogs, and controls
| Surface | What it does |
|---|---|
| Defect Backlog | Searchable, paginated queue by severity, status, and site. |
| Detail dialog | Review and edit description, severity, status, location, recommended action, and resolution notes. |
| Export action | Sends a CSV of the current defect scope. |
| Delete flow | Removes the defect from the active backlog. |
Key actions
- Search and filter the backlog.
- Open a defect without leaving the route.
- Edit severity, status, description, location, recommended action, and resolution notes.
- Export defects as CSV.
- Delete defect records when appropriate.
Filters and URL state
| Param | What it controls |
|---|---|
q | Search |
severity | Severity filter |
status | Status filter |
siteId | Site scope |
page | Pagination |
defectId | Open detail context |
- Search is debounced and the queue is paginated.
- This route is list-first and dialog-driven rather than tab-driven.
Outputs and side effects
- Updates defect records directly.
- Produces CSV exports for the visible defect scope.
- Changes made here affect later reports, quotes, work orders, and customer review conversations.
Inbound links
- Shell
Defectsnavigation. - Map site popup with
status=open. - Inspection-derived defect context.
- Activity Feed links.
Outbound links
- CSV export output
- No primary direct create-handoff to Quotes or Work Orders from this desk itself
Indirect handoffs
- Defects frequently become commercial or remedial work, but those transitions usually happen from Quotes, Work Orders, or inspection follow-up workflows rather than from the defect backlog alone.
- Report outputs depend on accurate defect severity, status, and wording here.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| The backlog feels incomplete | Confirm current site, status, and severity filters first. |
| A defect appears in reports with unclear wording | Fix the description, location, or recommended action in the defect detail. |
| CSV output looks smaller than expected | Re-check the current route filters because export follows the visible scope. |
